RHEWUM screens Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN)

03.10.2011, Remscheid

In March RHEWUM GmbH via its subsidiary AMBAU awards the order to supply three screening machines type AMB 30x60/SD, AMB 22x45/SD and AMB 15x36/SD.

The order was placed by one of the leading engineering groups in the world which provides engineering, project management, project financing as well as construction works for a variety of industry sectors as pharmaceuticals, chemicals, mining and metallurgy, power and water management. The machines are foreseen for a plant of a worldwide known chemical technology group; place of installation will be a fertilizer production plant in Africa. The screening machines will separate 143 t/h CAN at 1 mm, 158 t/h at 4 mm and 22 t/h at 1 mm. The customer will benefit from the direct agitated screen cloth which keeps the screen cloth free reliably and ensure a continuous production. Furthermore the housing of the screen is static so only very small dynamic load is carried into the customers building. In supplying this screen RHEWUM looks back to very huge experience especially for this kind of fertilizer – already more than 60 screening machines were constructed, build and supplied for customers producing CAN! A main advantage of the screening machines with direct excitation of the screen cloth is that the mesh is reliably kept free and that the housing of the screen is static. Due to this the dynamic load carried into customers building is minimized. RHEWUM is looking back on huge experiences with screening of CAN - more than 60 machines were produced and delivered to various customers producing CAN!

About CAN Calcium Ammonium Nitrate is the most important nitrogen fertilizer for agriculture. CAN is completely water soluble and therefore a very efficient source of calcium and nitrate for plants. Calcium has to be fed to plants during their period of growth to ensure a constant supply and a good development of the plants. (e.g. growth of roots, duration of florescence, colour, sugar content). The nitrate content of CAN is absorbed by the plants and enhances the absorption of calcium. Production of CAN Ammonium Nitrate is made by the neutralisation of Ammonia with nitric acid, Ammonium Nitrate itself is produced by the Haber-Bosch-Synthesis. Afterwards the Calcium is added by use of fine grinded Dolomite in a mixing and granulation process. Contrary to Ammonium Nitrate (AN) CAN can only be used as a fertilizer since the explosion risk is eliminated by adding the Calcium.
