Good luck! - Closure of the last colliery in Germany

20.12.2018, Bottrop

On Friday, 21 December 2018, the last German colliery will close in Bottrop. We wish the miners "Good Luck!" for the future.

All of Germany looks to Bottrop today and tomorrow. After a long tradition the last colliery in Prosper Haniel in Germany will be closed on Friday, 21 December 2018. Thus a long tradition-rich occupation and era comes to an end. On the occasion of the closure, an ecumenical service will be held in the Essen Dome, to which the patron saint, the holy Barbara statue, will be brought from a depth of 1,200 metres and to thank the miners for their many years of work. The patron saint was often depicted on miner's lamps. Such a petroleum lamp, like the one here from RHEWUM, was a duty for the miners to find their way outside in case of a electrical breakdown.
